SLCR has two parts to install: the slcr command-line tool, and the agent
skill that teaches coding agents to use it. The CLI is enough to work with
SLCR by hand. Install the skill too if you work with a coding agent.

Prebuilt binaries are available for macOS and Linux.

brew install wack/tap/slcrShell installerLink to this section
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -LsSf https://github.com/wack/slcr/releases/latest/download/slcr-installer.sh | shThe installer downloads the binary for your platform and installs slcr,
along with an updater, slcr-update, into $CARGO_HOME/bin, or
~/.cargo/bin if CARGO_HOME isn't set. It also adds that directory to
your PATH in your shell's profile. Open a new shell, or follow the
command the installer prints, before running slcr.
To install without changing your shell profile, set SLCR_NO_MODIFY_PATH=1
before running the installer.

| Platform | Architecture |
|---|---|
| macOS | Apple silicon (aarch64), Intel (x86_64) |
| Linux (glibc) | x86_64, ARM64 (aarch64) |
| Linux (musl) | x86_64 |
Windows isn't supported. Each binary is also available directly from the releases page (external site), with a SHA-256 checksum.
Install the agent skillLink to this section
From the root of the repository the agent works in:
npx skills add wack/slcrThis finds the skill in the slcr repository and installs it into the
repository, for example into .claude/skills/slcr/ for Claude Code. It can
also install the skill for other coding agents. Commit the installed files
so everyone working in the repository has the skill.
Without Node.js, download the skill directly:
mkdir -p .claude/skills
curl -fsSL https://github.com/wack/slcr/archive/refs/heads/trunk.tar.gz \
| tar -xz --strip-components=2 -C .claude/skills slcr-trunk/skills/slcrUpdateLink to this section
How you update depends on how you installed:
| Installed with | Update with |
|---|---|
| Homebrew | brew upgrade slcr |
| Shell installer | slcr-update |
cargo install | The same cargo install command again |
npx skills add | npx skills update |
The curl command for the skill | The same command again |
slcr-update installs the latest release. To install a specific one, use
slcr-update --version 0.1.0.
Install in CILink to this section
In CI, install the CLI into a known directory without changing any shell profile, and without the updater:
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -LsSf https://github.com/wack/slcr/releases/download/v0.1.0/slcr-installer.sh \
| SLCR_UNMANAGED_INSTALL="$HOME/.local/bin" shThis installs only slcr, into the directory you name. Add that directory to
the PATH of later steps if it isn't already there. The URL names a
specific release, so CI doesn't change versions until you update it. See
Run SLCR in CI for a complete setup.
Build from sourceLink to this section
To build from source, for example to run unreleased changes, install Rust (external site) and run:
cargo install --git https://github.com/wack/slcr --lockedThis builds the latest trunk. Add --tag v0.1.0 to build a release
instead.
UninstallLink to this section
| Installed with | Uninstall with |
|---|---|
| Homebrew | brew uninstall slcr |
| Shell installer | Delete slcr and slcr-update from $CARGO_HOME/bin (~/.cargo/bin by default), and the install receipt in ~/.config/slcr |
cargo install | cargo uninstall slcr |
| The agent skill | Delete its directory, such as .claude/skills/slcr/, and commit the change |
Installed tool descriptors are stored separately, in slcr's data
directory (on Linux, $XDG_DATA_HOME/slcr, or ~/.local/share/slcr if
XDG_DATA_HOME isn't set). Delete it to remove them.
